The Gospel

When Jesus and His disciples began to preach that you must obey the Gospel, what did they mean?

The Gospel is the "good news". What is the good news? The good news is that Jesus 1. died 2. was buried and 3. he rose from the dead!

How does one obey the "death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ?"

1 Corinthians 15:1-4
1. Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2. By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4. And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Again, how does one obey the Gospel?
1. Christ Died = We must die to sin through repentance.
2. Christ was buried = We must be buried with Him by water baptism in His name (Jesus Christ).
3. Christ rose from the dead = We must receive the gift of the Holy Spirit with the sign of speaking with tongues.

The man with the keys to Heaven Peter said it this way.
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Three easy steps to be born again 1. Repent of your sins. 2. be water baptized (immersed) with the name of Jesus Christ invoked. 3. Receive the gift of the Holy Ghost with tongues.

Many people do not understand that the Book of Acts is the first New Testament book. The book of Matthew is the first book in our New Testament but Acts is the first book that gave record of New Testament era! How do we know this? Do you remember when Jesus healed the leper? He said to him "go show yourself to the priest and offer the offering that Moses commanded." He said this because they were still under Old Testament era. They were still sacrificing animals.

Many ask about the thief on the cross. He was saved but not water baptized and did not speak with tongues. This is true but that was under Old Testament era! The man did not have the command by Peter to obey. It was given after Jesus ascended to Heaven. You cannot obey a command that is not given!

Everyone after the death of Jesus is under New Testament era and must get saved the same way, by being born of water and Spirit, John 3:5, Acts 2:38.

Believing in this era is no longer enough, you must obey the Gospel!

In the following passage we find that ten years after your reference in Acts 2:38 we find the same Apostle by the name of Peter preaching the exact same message to the Gentiles!

      1) Repentance 2) Water baptism in Jesus' name 3) Receive the Holy Ghost evidenced by tongues.
In verse 43 he said "whosoever" and look how they obeyed the Gospel.

Acts 10:43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
      44. While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
      45. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
      46. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
      47. Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
      48. And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

The Gentiles were also baptized in Jesus name. This Gospel is to be obeyed by Jew and Gentile alike. Believing in the Death, Burial and Resurrection is not enough, you must obey it! Every Jew and Gentile in this era must be saved by obeying the Gospel as they did in the book of Acts.

Here is plain proof that baptism in Jesus name is not only for the Jews!

      2 Thess. 1:8
In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

      Romans 10:12, 16
For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
      16. But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

Obey the Gospel and be saved!
